What does a meaningful gap analysis look like, and how do you avoid making it a tick-box exercise?

Most gap analyses tell you what you already know. They compare a current state document to a future state document and produce a list of differences. A meaningful gap analysis does something harder. It reveals the real distance between where the organisation is and where it needs to be, across strategy, operations, capability, culture, and structure. And it makes that distance specific enough to act on.
